It’s taken a few years and persistent phone calls, but the Guidrys may soon get their wish: protected parkland for their Soldotna neighborhood.
Marcus and Lisa have been asking to purchase almost a third of an acre of city land since 2009…
Guidry: “It’s actually park land in Soldotna; there’s a little strip there that’s actually a small city park is what the property is right now and like I say it’s right next door to our property and basically we just wanted to acquire the property so no one else would get it and just use it as a buffer zone, that’s kind of our intent and goal.”
The City decided not to expand Riverview Park, which left no purpose for the parcel. It was going to be sold during this year’s city auction, but the Guidrys again petitioned for a direct sale.
Councilors determined it would be in the best interest of the City to sell the land to the family, since they have continued to maintain the land for public use even when it did not belong to them.
The City Administration proposes selling the 0.30 acres for fair market value, $30,000. The matter will be considered during tomorrow (Wednesday) evening’s Council meeting, 6pm at Soldotna City Hall.
