The Kenai Animal Shelter has seen a rise in animals turned-in which have just been wandering further than normal.
Chief Animal Control Officer Cora Chambers said often it’s a misunderstanding.
Chambers: “A lot of animals have been picked up very near their home and actually some of them brought to our shelters because some concerned citizens are believing that these animals are stray and they’re lost, when in all reality a lot of them have just wandered to the edge of their property lines or maybe over to the neighbors’ house and are very near their home and many owners are coming to get those animals.”
She suggests that pet owners keep an eye on their animals during the busy summer months in order to prevent those sorts of situations.
