The House Finance Committee will take public testimony on Alaska’s operating budget on Friday at 2:00 pm.

The House introduced a bill Wednesday adding education funding and public employee contracts back into the budget just days before layoff notices were set to be sent to state workers.

Speaker Mike Chenault said now they will focus on getting the 3/4 vote of support.

Spkr. Chenault: “During the negotiations, not only with the minority but the Senate as well as having conversations with the governor’s office, the administration brought this proposed plan to us as far as being able to go in and find funding needed to cover those positions without adding more money to the budget. Where they would get that money from I can’t really tell you but I think that they’re renegotiating some building contracts and some other things that were mentioned to us.”

Those interested can testify at the Kenai Legislative Information Office.
