The Johnson Lake Campground in Kasilof is scheduled to reopen completely soon, after over a year and a half of construction.
Chief of Design Construction for State Parks Rys Miranda said they conducted a final inspection on the west loop that has been under construction last week.
Miranda: “From what I understand is right now we’re just waiting on the grass to come in and once we have 70% coverage on that the site will be considered stabilized and we’ll be at 100% complete.”
As we previously reported, Double A Construction, the previous contractor, broke its contract with State Parks, failing to complete the work that was due to originally be done May 31, 2014.
Miranda previously said Double A did not give a reason as to why they did not finish the work.
Miranda: “Last year the original contractor wasn’t able to finish it and so we were working with their bonding company to finish it for them, that kind of fell through and we determined that it would a lot faster if we just put it out to bid ourselves.”
