A local group is promoting growth in the cannabis industry in preparation for the state permitting business licenses next year.

Phelps: “We’re constantly involved in the entire process and every end of it, we will be flying to Fairbanks on July 2 to participate in the Marijuana Control Board’s public testimony as well. We’re just trying to keep people involved and informed and share the information and the knowledge.”
She added that their group is reaching out to activists in states that have already gone through the commercial process to compare problems and see what they can do to avoid those.
Recreational marijuana became legal for Alaskans 21 and over in February and the state has until November to create regulations for commercial marijuana sales.
