The City of Kenai is aiming to get a better grasp on marijuana regulations tonight.
City Attorney Scott Bloom recommended councilors to hold the work session, which will begin at 6 pm tonight in the Kenai Council Chambers.
Mayor Pat Porter said she’s already been thinking about it…
Mayor Porter: “I’ve already had some calls from people in our community wondering what the City Council plans to do about that and so it makes you think, well what can we do about it? And then it’s really interesting because the way the bill was written, the proposition was written, it actually gives cities a lot of latitude.”
The State has established a marijuana control board, but the members are yet to be chosen. Municipalities can still regulate how or if marijuana is grown or sold within city limits.
The meeting with start with a presentation from Bloom and will include a short public comment period, but Mayor Porter said the intent at this time is for Council to learn about the legal parameters. No decisions will be made at this time.
