Central Emergency Services and the Division of Forestry responded around 1:30 pm to a bonfire despite a state-wide burn ban.
The Division of Forestry’s Andy Alexandrou said when crews arrived on Murwood Ave. the fire was six feet high.
Alexandrou: “It was about 50 feet from the tree line which was a little close for a six foot bonfire with the little breeze we have going on. Central Emergency Services responded and squirted it out and Forestry is staying on scene to scrape it up and make sure it is out.”
There is currently a burn ban in the Kenai Peninsula Borough as well as both cities of Soldotna and Kenai.
The state can charge individuals responsible for fire responses.
