Homer Electric Association experienced a widespread outage this morning at around 11:00 am.
HEA’s Joe Gallagher explained…
Gallagher: “We experienced a problem at the Nikiski Generation Plant and the plant did trip offline. We lost power to different areas across the Kenai Peninsula, from Kenai, Nikiski, through Ninilchik and down to Homer, as well as Soldotna and Sterling. In total 22,000 meters were affected by the outage.”
Crews were able to restart generation at other plants that HEA operates and power was restored around 11:20 am.
