East Side commercial fishing will be limited to 36 hours per week by emergency orders as of July 1, but Alaska Department of Fish and Game Biologist Pat Shields said the early run king salmon numbers are looking good.
He said while most of southcentral Alaska saw numbers well above escapement goals, the Kenai River did not do as well as other rivers like Anchor River or the Deshka River.
Shields said many are hoping the positive numbers of early run king salmon carry over to the late run so commercial fishing on the east side can go back to regularly scheduled Monday and Thursday openings.
