The South Spruce Street dip net fishery fee shacks will be moved toward the highway.
Kenai City Manager Rick Koch…
Koch: “It’s been problematic that when the lines get long you can’t see from the top of the hill to the bottom of the hill and if you get halfway down and want to turn around it’s very problematic. So we’re going to a two fee shack, two lane setup on top of the hill and have made other improvements so that traffic moves through those fee shacks faster.”
New cameras will be used this season so that shack attendants can read the vehicles’ license plates from inside since drivers getting out of their vehicles to read their plates was a major hang up to the process.
Koch said the residents ,people at the LeeShore Center, and church members that are behind the shacks will receive special passes.
Koch: “We will also provide personnel to provide traffic to move through the exit lanes at times. I’m not exactly sure of everything we’ll do this year to respond to them other than we’re committed to make sure it works. I think that we’ve got the framework of it pretty well in place but we’ll learn more as soon as it starts.”
The dipnet fishery opens this Friday, July 10.
