Soldotna City Manager Mark Dixson has the go-ahead to begin negotiating design services for the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex’s new Field House.
Dixson: “The expansion is to include an expansion of the existing conference rooms, as well as a field house. No decisions have been made in regard to the square footage of the expansion, and no decision has been made as to whether this is going be a domed facility or a brick and mortar facility or a Morton-style building facility and that’s kind of why we’re doing this in phases.”
City Engineer Kyle Kornelis said the city advertised and solicited professional design proposals for this phase.
Kornelis: “We received six proposals, which is an excellent turn-out. Three of the firms were short listed and invited to participate in oral interviews to further assist the evaluation team in choosing the highest ranking proposer. At the conclusion of the evaluation committee, Stantec Architecture was the highest ranking firm.”
Once a design is presented, there will be public hearings on the options.
The total cost of the services may not exceed $500,000 based on a previous ordinance passed by the council.
Stantec Architecture Inc. is a global design company with an office in Anchorage.
