Rumors of President Barrack Obama visiting Alaska began months ago; now the White House confirmed he will be in Anchorage next month.
President Obama will visit Anchorage for a climate conference on August 31.
The White House stated in a release: “GLACIER will convene foreign ministers from Arctic nations and key non-Arctic states with scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders from Alaska and the Arctic region to discuss how climate change is reshaping the Arctic, increase global awareness of how Arctic climate change is affecting the rest of the world, and identify individual and collective actions to address these challenges,”
A team from the White House visited Alaska’s western town of Dillingham last week.
According to Dillingham’s Mayor Alice Ruby, President Obama may visit some more rural communities and Dillingham has been put on the list of possibilities.
More details about his visit will be released at a later time according to the White House.
