K-Beach Assembly Member Kelly Wolf plans to introduce the idea of a service area for the K-Beach Road District.
Asmb. Wolf: “The intent of the ordinance for the service area is real simple, the people of K-Beach would like a little more input on the development of their community and creating an economic service area would allow just that.”
In a June meeting of the Borough Residents Against Annexation, Wolf discussed the idea with the attendees, saying if a K-Beach service area is created, the City of Soldotna will probably be required to put annexation to the vote of the people.
There is one drawback, which he also discussed with the group.
Asmb. Wolf: “We’re going to have to create a tax, my community is going to have to pay a tax for the service area. I’ve set it at 0.01 which is very minimal.”
Previously we spoke with the anti-annexation group who said they were against any kind of annexation, including the business district along K-Beach.
If the ordinance’s introduction goes as planned at the July 28 Borough Assembly meeting, a public hearing will be scheduled in August.
The issue cannot be put on the October ballot, but may be put on a November special election.
