The City of Kenai is looking to clarify the terms of what constitutes as junk or abandoned vehicles.

The city council will hold a work session on Tuesday, July 21, to amend city code according to City Manager Rick Koch.

Koch: “And there’s a couple of components required for one to be considered junk, it’s not operational, it’s missing major operational parts, it doesn’t have a current registration. And it takes like two of those, there’s a list of things and if two of those are present it’s considered a junk vehicle.”

He said there was a change made to the code a couple of years ago which made it tough to enforce those.

Koch: “It’s the intent of the sponsor of this of the administration that makes it easier for the enforcement official to enforce that part of code.”

That work session will begin at 6 pm in the Kenai Council Chambers.

Public testimony on the topic will be taken.
