Spike in Sockeye Drawing Weekend Crowds

Author: KSRM News Desk |

A spike has been seen in Kenai River sockeye salmon this week; as of Thursday, just under 75,000 sockeye had been counted in the late-run  for a season total of 490,000 fish.

King salmon retention in the dipnet fishery will be allowed by Fish and Game as of Saturday; that means each household may retain one king salmon for the year.

KSRM’s Ashley Smith stopped by the beach this morning to catch up with fishing families.

At this time last year over 575,000 sockeye had passed the sonar but reports from Bristol Bay have indicated the late-run is later than usual.

On Wednesday a spike was seen in the Anchor Point off-shore test fish daily index of 343.
