Land sales, a hospital purchase, and a possible service area are on the agenda for Tuesday’s borough assembly meeting.
One of the first items up for public comment will be whether the borough should retain or sell over 70 properties obtained via tax foreclosure.
Parcels up for a public outcry auction range from under half an acre to 40 acres, located from Nikiski to Nanwalek. If approved, properties would be auctioned on October 24, 2015.
Also up for public hearing, appropriating an unspecified amount of funding from the CPGH, Inc. Replacement and Expansion Fund for the Central Peninsula Hospital’s purchase of a OBGYN clinic.
The hospital’s CEO Rick Davis said the opportunity arose when a local doctor approached the hospital and said she was leaving at the end of July.
Davis: “And she’s got quite a few expectant mothers under her care that are going to need follow-up continuity care after she leaves. We’ve got a temporary physician hired to start the day after Dr. Hawthorne leaves but we really don’t have a good place for the person to practice out of.”
And finally, K-Beach Assembly Member Kelly Wolf plans to introduce the idea of a service area for the K-Beach Road District.
Asmb. Wolf: “The intent of the ordinance for the service area is real simple, the people of K-Beach would like a little more input on the development of their community and creating an economic service area would allow just that.”
The one drawback Wolf addressed with the group, Borough Residents Against Annexation, would be a 0.01% mill rate K-Beach property owners would have to pay if that district is formed.
That borough assembly meeting will begin at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, July 28 in the assembly chambers in Soldotna.
