The South Anchorage Legion team earned the home team designation for the pairing against the Post 20 Twins and made the most of its final at -bat; scoring on a game-winning, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 4-3 victory over the Twins.
Tied at 3-3 with two outs in the ninth, South delivered a bases-loaded single and now advance to the winner’s bracket as the Post 20 Twins will have to doubleback through the double-elimination American Legion baseball state tournament.
The Twins held a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning before allowing four, unanswered runs including the final at-bat game winner for South.
The Twins continue state tournament play with a scheduled 9:00 a.m. Wednesday contest against Fairbanks Post 11. Post 11 fell to #2 seed Juneau 5-2 in the first round. Other first round winners included: #1 Chugiak 6 – Fairbanks Post 30 0 and #5 Valley 3 – #4 Dimond 0.
