Nome Grow Operation Search Warrant Finds $32,000 in Marijuana

Authorities confiscated an estimated street value of $32,000 in marijuana from a residence outside of Nome today.

 

Nome Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics along with Nome Alaska State Troopers patrol executed a search warrant into a suspected marijuana grow.

 

The owners of the residence were identified as 53-year-old Anthony Shelp and 34-year-old Esther Olanna, both of Nome.

 

Investigation revealed a variety of marijuana being grown in two seperate areas of the residence including twenty-one mature plants and six starter plants.

 

Under Alaskan law, each person 21 or older in a household can have a total of six marijuana plants, three of which can be flowering at one time.

 

The processed marijuana from the twenty-one mature plants produced an estimated total aggregate dry weight of 2.3 pounds.

 

Charges against both Shelp and Olanna for misconduct involving a controlled substance and violating conditions of release will be forwarded to the Nome District Attorney’s Office.

 

Both were found to be on conditions of release and not to be in possession of controlled substances.
