U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan announced veteran listening sessions across Alaska, including Kenai, at the end of August.

Sullivan said these sessions will be a great opportunity for veterans to meet VA officials face-to-face.

U.S. Veteran Administration Secretary Bob McDonald and VA Undersecretary of Health, David Shulkin accepted Sullivan’s request that they attend the two listening sessions and field hearing in Alaska.

A release by Sullivan’s office stated, “As a response to the long wait-time scandals at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs facility, the Choice Act was signed into law in 2014. However, due to Alaska’s unique needs, the Choice Act program is not delivering on the promise of improving access to care for Alaska’s veterans.”

The listening sessions will focus on the problems with the Veterans Choice Act being implemented in Alaska.
