The 2015 high school football season will open with the contest football fans dreamed of and desired at the end of the 2014 football season.

The 2014 Medium School division state champion Soldotna Stars, winners of a state record 29 straight games; will host the South Anchorage Wolverines, winners of the Large School division state title in 2014.  A clash of Alaska’s football titans is scheduled for Friday night at Soldotna High School.  Game time scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with coverage on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com.

According to the ASD master schedule, the Soldotna vs South football game will be the first high school football game played in Alaska and traditionally Alaska plays the earliest football game in the nation.

The opening weekend of Alaska high school football will feature three home contests for the central peninsula’s three football programs.

The Soldotna Stars and South Anchorage non-divisional pairing opens a weekend of three, non-divisional pairings, each pairing a central peninsula team against a team from a larger classification.

Saturday’s schedule features the Nikiski Bulldogs, runner-up in the 2014 Small School Alaska State Football Championship to the Eielson Ravens, playing the Northern Lights Conference Kodiak Bears at Nikiski High School.  Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with coverage on KSRM 920AM and www.radiokenai.com.

Saturday’s scheduled also features the Kenai Kardinals, runner-up in the Northern Lights Conference in 2014, paired against the Cook Inlet Conference Bartlett Golden Bears, 2014 semi-finalist in the Large School division.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Kenai Central High School.
