The Kenai Peninsula College saw an 8% increase in summer semester enrollment compared to this time last year.
Suzie Kendrick: “A lot of people were taking advantage of being able to get classes in a more accelerated package because the summer sessions are much shorter than the regular length semesters.”
Advancement Programs Manager Suzie Kendrick said they hope that trend continues into fall registration which is still open.
Kendrick: “Our fall semester starts on August 24 and I want everybody to understand that the sooner that they get in there and register, the more classes will be available to them because as things get closer to the start of classes, more and more of the classes are filling up.”
As of this morning, KPC’s campuses showed a 6% decrease in enrollment for the fall semester.
Kendrick: “Looking at the data, students tend to be waiting longer and longer to register for classes. And I’m confident being down 6% in today’s climate is looking very good and I’m very confident that that number will continue to go down. I wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up being at flat enrollment or a little bit above.”
Kendrick reminded students and parents that last year the college’s Jump Start program expanded to include spaces for high school juniors.
The Jump Start Program is a venue for high school juniors and seniors to take the general education requirements for degree programs at a discounted price compared to out of state tuition.
