Personal Use Woodcutting in Swanson River, Swan Lake Areas

Author: KSRM News Desk |
The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is offering personal use firewood permits for the Swanson River and Swan Lake Road areas.
The permits are free although permit holders are requested to scatter the excess limbs and woody debris.
Cutting in the areas is limited to trees which are dead and already downed, standing trees may not be felled in those areas.
Permits limit holders to the collection of five cords of fire wood only, which is for personal use only not for sale or barter.
Vehicles are prohibited beyond the shoulders of the road.
Those permits have an expiration date of March 31, 2016 unless weather conditions or a lack of available wood becomes an issue in which case the Refuge Manager may close the areas.
The Refuge may inquire about harvest information after the permitted period is up.
Anyone interested can obtain permits with maps and instructions from the Refuge Headquarters on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna, open 8:00 am to 4:30 pm weekdays.
