Moose hunting season dates have changed on the Kenai Peninsula for the first time since the 1980’s.

Alaska Department of Fish and Game Biologist Jeff Selinger detailed the rifle season for Game Management Units of 15A and C, along with a portion of 15 B…

Selinger: “The beginning of the season for moose hunting is September 1 – 25, that’s a change from our old dates which were August 20 – September 20.”

The early archery season dates in Units 15A and 15B also got shifted.

Selinger: “Those season dates are August 22 – 29. For years our seasons have started August 20 with the archery season starting August 10. So just so hunters are aware, you need to check your regs and make sure you’re not out hunting moose yet in Units 7 and 15.”

Selinger said the last two winters’ mild weather has really helped moose numbers on the Kenai Peninsula.
