A fault on the transmission line between Anchorage and Indian Creek left about 11,000 Homer Electric Association customers on the Kenai Peninsula without power at 11:00 am this morning.
HEA’s Joe Gallagher…
Gallagher: “And with that fault there was a major disruption on the transmission line which changes the frequency levels on the entire railbelt system. Our system saw that and reacted by shedding load and we lost several circuits, impacting about 11,000 meters in the Homer Electric system. We were able to quickly adjust our generation plants on the Kenai Peninsula and we had power completely restored to everybody that was affected by the outage in about 20 minutes. Power was back on at 11:22 am.”
Crews adjusted generation output from HEA’s Nikiski, Bradley Lake, and Soldotna power plants.
Chugach Electric is assisting HEA by driving the transmission line between Anchorage and Indian Creek to try to determine the cause of that fault.
