A documentary detailing the challenges faced by victims of child sexual abuse and Alaska’s recently passed Erin’s law will air on cable’s TLC on August 30.
Soldotna’s Senator Peter Micciche co-sponsored the bill also known as Bree’s law in this spring’s legislative session.
Sen. Micciche(R-Soldotna): “The supporters of that bill, people that are involved in the fight against child sexual abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence in Alaska are happy. We believe that will provide some tools that ultimately some day knock us off the charts for being number one in the country for some pretty negative demographics when it comes to those social issues.”
Micciche also made amendments to include dating violence as a tribute to 20-year-old Breeana Moore who was shot by her then boyfriend in 2014.
The documentary on TLC will feature interview with child sexual abuse survivors, including Erin Merryn who has worked to pas Erin’s Law in every state.
Alaska became the 25th state to pass that law on July 9, which mandates that sexual abuse prevention education be provided in public schools.
