A “haziness” has been reported in Soldotna but no fires have been reported to be the cause.
Central Emergency Services Captain Terry Bookey says they have not responded to any fires.
Division of Forestry’s Howie Kent said monitoring on the Card Street and Funny River Fires are still ongoing.
Kent: “We’re still continuing our rehab efforts on that fire and should have those wrapped up by next week. We’ve been out there and no reports or anything seen of any kind of smoke or anything so definitely no fire activity at this time on that fire. And none that we know of on the Funny River Fire from last year either. We’ve had some hold-over fires associated with that this year but we haven’t had much of a report from aircraft or anything lately.”
One theory is dust displacement due to the high winds seen throughout the peninsula yesterday and today.
