Kenai River Water Levels Increased by Glacial Outburst

A glacial outburst from the lake atop Snow Glacier has caused a rise in the Kenai Lake and River.

Kenai River has reached 11.3 feet, below the minor flood stage of 13 feet.

No flooding is expected according to the National Weather Service.

Service Hydrologist Andrew Dixon in Anchorage said a glacial outburst is a natural occurrence.

The Kenai River’s current water level has caused Class III Whitewater to develop below Jim’s Landing.

Dixson said recreational users should be cautious.

The water may begin to impact portions of Primrose Road South of the Kenai Lake beginning Friday morning.
