For over five years the Central Peninsula Hospital has offered an adult drive-through flu vaccination clinic. This year’s event will be on Wednesday, September 23.
Hospital Infection Preventionist Dana McDonald said last year they vaccinated over 400 local adults.
McDonald: “So we just ask that people start lining up there on the street by KPO, Kenai Peninsula Orthopedics there, then by where the helicopter is, and then you’ll come through our parking area and then through our parking garage and we’ll make sure we give you a flu vaccine.”
She says the event is open to anyone over the age of 18.
McDonald: “It is definitely recommended for people who might have diabetes, heart disease, or asthma and the best way to prevent the spread of influenza is to get vaccinated.”
As we previously reported, the CDC found that last year’s 2014-2015 flu vaccines did not match the components for influenza A well across the nation. Alaska mimicked the national trend which saw an early peak in flu A and a later flu B increase.
The State of Alaska still recommends residents get flu vaccines each year when they become available in the fall.
The free adult drive-through flu clinic at Central Peninsula Hospital will be from 3:00 -5:30 pm next Wednesday, September 23.
