The Alaska Department of Transportation is working to get Soldotna’s newest intersection at Birch Street and the Sterling Highway online.
Project Engineer Marcus Forkner said the DOT is conducting tests on the installed electronics before the intersection will be put on a flash mode to alert drivers to a new traffic pattern.
Forkner: “Generally we flash about 24-hours and if there’s no problem with it there’s no reason why it can’t be put into full operation at this point. So once the flashing is done we will probably turn it to operational mode as long as all the electronics test out and our testing punch list is finished.”
The intersection was determined necessary because of the increase in traffic to the Soldotna Creek Park over the last year.
Forkner said feedback from community members is always appreciated and he can be reached at [email protected].
