Absentee voting for the October 6 Municipal Elections opened today.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Clerk Johni Blankenship detailed who can take advantage of voting early.

Blankenship: “Essentially the only reason would be they can’t make it to the polls on election day which is October 6. So if they’re going to be out of town or the hours from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on that day don’t work for them, they might choose to vote absentee at some of our absentee voting sites which opened today.”

She said registered voters for the Kenai Peninsula Borough, Soldotna, and Kenai elections can submit an application at the Borough Clerk’s Office.

Blankenship: “They come in and fill out a form which is attached to the envelope in which they put the ballot and that form looks very much like a voter registration form. It’s just making sure that they’re registered voters and gives us the opportunity to look up who they are, where they live, and to ensure that they do have the right to vote in this election.”

There are also absentee voting stations set up at the Kenai, Seward, and Homer City Clerk’s offices.

Anyone with questions about absentee voting may call the Kenai Peninsula Borough Clerk’s office at 714-2160.
