The Kenai Senior Center will receive 300 pounds of sockeye salmon fillets thanks to a donation from the Alaska Salmon Alliance.
The first shipment of 50 pounds was delivered by ASA’s Arni Thompson to the center yesterday.
Senior Center Director Rachael Craig says the donation is integral to the type of diet encouraged in seniors.
Craig added that they plan to serve a salmon meal at least once a month with the donation.
She says salmon always sees more interest and estimated those meals will probably be served to around 120 people between the center’s lunch and the home delivered meals.
Melissa, “Missy”, Bailey has been the cook at the center for 12 years and told us which salmon dish is typically a favorite among the seniors.
Thompson said much of the salmon donated was caught locally right here in the Cook Inlet.
