Beginning in 2016, the Mount Marathon race will alternate the women’s and men’s races start positions for the 4th of July Event.
The Mount Marathon committee, at its annual meeting, approved a rotating schedule with will allow for the women’s feature race to be run in the afternoon spot in 2016, with the men’s race beginning at 11:00 a.m. on July 4th. The men’s race will rotate to the later start time in 2017.
Changes come to the Mount Marathon start procedures due in part to the increased interest and increased participation in the women’s race; including the draw of world-class female athletes, olympians such as Holly Brooks and the interest in the running accomplishments of Allie Ostrander.
