Preliminary concept designs and cost estimates were presented to the Kenai subcommittee aimed at providing recommendations for a city event space this week.
Parks and Recreation Director Bob Frates says four conceptual designs were discussed by the Kenai Outdoor Opportunity Location members on Tuesday.
Frates: “As far as reviewing the layout options, that will probably be fine tuned in the next meeting or two.”
City Manager Rick Koch also presented the first set of preliminary cost estimates for the space, calculating the 20 by 30 foot stage, 200 space parking lot, and 18 vendor spaces with water and electric combined equaling about $906,000.
Frates: “Naturally I think the stage is a pretty important priority for the event park so I think they will be looking pretty closely at the stage and what the stage looks like and the design of the stage and those costs. And then they might start looking at the other priorities, is it the restrooms that the next priorities, or the spectator area, or the parking.”
The overall preliminary cost estimate of the event space with the three aforementioned components along with sewer service for the vendor spaces and a permanent restroom with utilities is $1.2 million.
