Alaska’s congressional delegation spoke about the significance of this day, this being the first U.S. Capitol Christmas tree to come from Alaska and the farthest any Capitol tree has ever traveled.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski: “Indulge me for just a moment, close your eyes, imagine your in the Chugach National Forest, in the heart of Alaska.

Sen. Dan Sullivan: It’s probably the first tree to come from a national forest that’s bigger than some of the states in the Lower 48.

Rep. Don Young: I just came here in when the tree was planted and they keep trying to cut me down but they’re not going to do it.”

The tree was lit during the ceremony which began at 1:00 pm Alaska Time Wednesday afternoon.
