AABC Names Basketball All-State Teams: Ian McGarry Earns 1A Boys Player of the Year

The Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches released the 2023 All-State Team and Player of the Year selections for the 2022-23 high school basketball season.

 

Seven Kenai Peninsula athletes were named to all-state teams in three classifications, including a 1A Player of the Year selection for CIA’s Ian McGarry.

 

1A Basketball

Ian McGarry, Cook Inlet Academy sophomore, earned the AABC 1A Male Player of the Year Award after guiding the CIA Eagles to a 23-4 record and a berth at the ASAA 1A state tournament.  McGarry averaged 20 points per game in three state tournament games.

Tatum Rozak, Cook Inlet Academy senior, earned a 1A 2nd Team All-State selection pushing the Eagle girls to a 5th Place at the 1A girls state tournament.

 

 

 

2A Basketball

A pair of Ninilchik Wolverines collected 2A Boys 1st Team All-State selections.

Colvin Moore, Ninilchik senior and Jaylin Scott, Wolverine senior, were both honored with first-team selections having led the Ninilchik boys to a second-straight 2A ASAA State Championship.  Moore posted the second-highest scoring average for the 2A state tournament, averaging 24 points per game.

 

 

3A Basketball

Emma Beck, Kenai Central junior and Peninsula Conference MVP, earned a 3A Girls 1st Team All-State selection.  Beck led the Kenai girls to a 4th Place finish at the ASAA 3A State Championships and was named to the 3A Girls State All-Tournament Team.

Seward senior Lena Jagielski was named to the 3A Girls 2nd Team leading the Seward Seahawk girls.

Jakob Kvasnikoff, KCHS senior, earned a AABC 2nd Team All-State selection leading the Kardinal boys in scoring throughout the regular season, Peninsula Conference play and the 3A state tournament; Jakob was named to the 3A Boys State All-Tournament Team.
