Absentee ballots for Tuesday’s municipal election continue to trickle in and will be certified by individual jurisdictions.

Borough Clerk Johni Blankenship says absentee ballots postmarked by yesterday will be counted by the borough as long as they are received by October 13 when results will be certified by the assembly.

Blankenship: “So each jurisdiction has it’s own method for canvassing its election and certifying its election. For the Kenai Peninsula Borough, we are still gathering special needs and question ballots, for example I drive to Homer and I gather up all the stuff for the south area and my deputy goes to Seward and she gets all the stuff from the east area. I’ve just given those things to the canvass board. They will start working on giving me a number on what needs to be counted.”

New members of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will be sworn in at the October 13 assembly meeting in Soldotna.

Soldotna’s absentee and question ballots will be canvassed by a board on Monday, October 12 and the results will be certified at the October 14 city council meeting. So far Soldotna has received 112 absentee, questioned and special needs ballots but that number could increase before certification.

Kenai’s Canvassing Board will meet Tuesday, October 13 to determine unofficial results which will be certified by Kenai City Council at the October 21 meeting.
