UPDATE 6/1/22 6:00AM – On 5/30/22 at approximately 5:35 p.m. AST responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision at mile 7.2 Seward Hwy. Scene investigation revealed that a 2007 Jeep was southbound and crossed the centerline hitting a northbound 2007 Dodge Dakota head-on. The Dodge Dakota subsequently caught fire. The driver of the Dodge Dakota, and a rear-seat passenger were removed from the vehicle by Good Samaritans and then were life-flighted to an Anchorage hospital with serious injuries, according to the online Alaska State Trooper dispatch.
A front-seat passenger in the Dodge Dakota, identified as Ophelia Yang, age 44 of Anchorage, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the 2007 Jeep was also life-flighted to Anchorage for treatment of their injuries. The investigation by Alaska State Troopers is ongoing.
ORIGINAL: Alaska State Troopers are currently on the scene of a vehicle crash near mile 7.0 of the Seward Highway in Bear Creek. The incident was reported at 6:00 p.m. Cooper Landing Emergency Services reports that the incident was a head on collision with multiple injuries and a potential fatality. Several aeromedical aircraft are responding to the scene.
The highway is anticipated to be closed for several hours. No other information is known at this time.
