The Kenai girls experienced 3A basketball at its finest when the Kardinals fell to Anchorage Christian School 80-27 in the girls championship game at the 2019 ACS Pepsi Invitational Basketball Tournament. The Lion girls are the defending two-time 3A state champions and have lost only one game in two seasons.
The ACS boys downed Valdez in the boy’s title game.

Friday Game Results: January 4
The Kenai Kardinal girls basketball team defeated Nikiski on Friday to advance to Saturday’s championship game at the 2019 ACS Pepsi Invitational Basketball Tournament.
Kenai girls 42 – Nikiski Girls 41 OT
The Kenai girls held-off Nikiski 42-41 in overtime to advance to the girls championship game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Kenai lead 17-13 at the half and 22-21 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs outscored Kenai 15-14 to tie the game at 36-36. Kenai held-off Nikiski in spite of shooting 0-8 from the freethrow line in the overtime.
Kenai Boys 63 – First Christian Academy of Florida 18
Kenai easily rolled over First Christian 63-18 lead by Adam Trujillo with 14 points and Braedon Pitch with 12 points.
SoHi Boys 57 – Hutchison 58
Leading 46-44 into the fourth quarter, the Soldotna Stars boys dropped a 57-58 contest to Hutchison. Ray Chumley lead the Stars with 17 points.
First Round Results: Thursday, January 3rd
Nikiski Girls 54 – First Christian Academy of Florida 10
Bulldogs lead 19-0 after one quarter and held Florida scoreless in first and fourth quarters. Bethany Carsten scored 16 points and Lillian Carstens added 12 points.
Kenai Girls 52 – Kotzebue 27
Kenai lead 26-11 at the half. Brooke Satathite lead the Kardinals with 13 points and Jaycie Calvert added 10 points.
Kenai plays Nikiski in the winner’s bracket on Friday at 4 p.m.
Kenai Boys 64 – Barrow 72
Tied at 18-18 after one quarter, Barrow lead 37-32 at the half and never trailed in the second half. Austin Stockton lead the Kardinals with 26 points and Andrew Bezdecny added 16 points.
Kenai plays Florida on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
SoHi Boys 48 – Eielson 59
The SoHi boys trailed 25-21 at the half and opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run, only to fade and fall 59-48 to the Ravens.
