On January 30th, Cook Inlet Region, Inc. petitioned the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission for intervention in a dispute over gas rights, where the State determined that another hearing is required.
The AOGCC scheduled the next hearing for April 8, 2014, for which public comments can be received up until the date of the next hearing.
CIRI filed a complaint with the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission last October 8, claiming that Buccaneer is illegally producing natural gas from the Kenai Loop 1-1 and Kenai Loop 1-3 wells.
In paperwork filed with the AOGCC, CIRI claimed that “Buccaneer has been in violation of 20 AAC 25.055(b) since January 14, 2012, when it began regular production of natural gas from the KL 1-1 well even though the interests in Section 33, the governmental section where the well are located, had not been pooled.”
In layman’s terms, CIRI says Buccaneer was taking resources beyond the boundaries of the area they have leased, without providing payment for the surrounding landowners.
Both CIRI and Buccaneer have declined to comment on the issue, since it is “pending litigation.”
