AEA Soliciting Public Comment On Alaska’s EV Infrastructure Implementation Plan

Author: Anthony Moore |

The Alaska Energy Authority is seeking public comment on the state’s EV Infrastructure Implementation Plan. The AEA is working with the Alaska Department of Transportation and stakeholders across the state to develop an EV Infrastructure plan as required by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. Through the program, Alaska will receive more than $50 million over five years.

The formula funds will be used to build a statewide EV fast-charging network and community-based charging sites in rural and urban areas across Alaska.

To receive the allocated funds, the AEA must submit an EV infrastructure plan by Monday, August 1, 2022, to the Federal Highway Administration describing the company’s goals and how it aims to use the NEVI funds. The plan will cover areas such as charging infrastructure deployment, existing and future conditions, and public engagement. The plan can be found here.

In 2021, AEA used Volkswagen Trust Funds and State Energy Funds to develop the first part of the state’s fast-charging network by opening an electric vehicle charging site in Homer. Other areas on the network’s corridor include locations in Soldotna, Seward, Cooper Landing, Anchorage, Chugiak, Cantwell, Healy, and Trapper Creek.

Comments on the NEVI plan can be emailed to electricvehicles@akenergyauthority.org or complete the online form here. The comment period is open until Friday, July 29, 2022, at 5 p.m.
