On October 7 the Alaska House Labor and Commerce Committee will hold the first of two meetings to discuss the impacts of the Affordable Care Act on Alaska.

Rep. Kurt Olson(R) chairs that committee.

Olson: “We’re looking at the crux of the problem on a state basis rather than national. And we’re looking at the prospect of all major medial group coverage increasing by anywhere between 37% and a lot higher at the beginning of next year. And what we’re trying to do is have the director of the division of insurance the director of heath and social services, the two major providers and then a number of medical providers address their perception on what the cause of the problem is and what we can do to mitigate it.”

Those meetings  will be broadcast on Alaska Legislative TV at 1:00 pm Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday only testimony by invitation will be heard and the Kenai Legislative Office will be open only if requests to listen are received by 4:30 today. Those interested can call 283-2030.

The continuing conference on Wednesday, October 8 will accept public testimony and the Kenai LIO will be open for that second conference.
