Multiple state agencies are examining a proposed water conveyance structure for the K-Beach flooding area.

Last week, the borough hosted a tour of six different areas affected by the 2013 flooding and a work session to orient the current assembly members.

Afterwards, we asked Borough Chief of Staff Paul Ostrander what the next steps would be for the project proposed by the non-profit, K-Beach Flood Mitigation Project.

Ostrander: “Assuming they get through the permit process and they’re given the permits they’ve applied for, at that point then I guess it would be a matter of them being able to fund the project and construct it. I will tell you I think that there’s some issues associated with the Seventh Street Conveyance Structure that some of the agencies are concerned about.”

Borough Mayor Mike Navarre addressed a couple of the concerns of the various agencies…

Navarre: “Who’s going to maintain it, are the calculations that have been done accurate, are the suggested advantages of it going to turn out as some have suggested, is it going to provide the relief of surface water the way the proposers have suggested it will. It really is both the borough and the state agencies doing due diligence.”

The permit applications for the project were submitted the first week of March and the process can take upwards of 60 days.
