A feasibility study focused on the relocation of the Kenai Spur Highway near the Alaska LNG Project was conducted by HDR this summer and will be the focus of an open house tonight.

Josselyn O’Connor with the Alaska LNG Project…

O’Connor: “So Monday, October 19, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, there’ll be a public open house and we’re inviting everyone in the community to come out. We’ll be sharing information about the feasibility study, we’ll be talking with them about key issues that we considered, specifically environmental, community, traffic patterns, utilities, etc. Most importantly we want to encourage and receive feedback from the community and input from them about the process.”

Attendees will be able to review various options for the relocation at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center.

O’Connor says many community members have asked why the Kenai Spur Highway needs to be moved.

O’Connor: “That’ll be one big thing that we talk about at the open house are the safety concerns around this and the need for a potential relocation of the highway. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Kenai Peninsula Borough have been engaged in the process and both will be on hand as well to speak with the community.”

Community outreach and engagement will continue, with another open house tentatively scheduled for early 2016.

A meeting with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission officials is also scheduled for October 27 at 6:00 pm in the Nikiski Recreation Center.
