Alaska State Parks announced the formation of a Southeast Regional Citizen Advisory Board (CAB) to represent Southeast Alaska communities and provide feedback, recommendations, and discussions to assist State Parks with future management and operational strategies.
Alaska State Parks Citizen Advisory Boards assist park staff across the state with management and development issues.
An advisory board varies between seven and 15 members. The director of Alaska State Parks makes appointments for up to three-year terms.
The parks currently have 11 active advisory boards, commissions, or councils across the state.
The Southeast board will create 12 CABs in Alaska.
“In Southeast Alaska, the three citizen advisory boards that existed prior to 2020 became increasingly difficult to manage with dwindling time and energy among the members in each community,” said Director of Alaska State Parks Ricky Gease. “By combining the CABs, we can add two more communities and find representatives from each local region to maximize our staff resources and streamline the process.”
There will be 10 board members representing the various communities to form the united Southeast Alaska Citizen Advisory Board.
Alaska State Parks is looking for interest from the following communities:
- Ketchikan – 2 members
- Wrangell – 1 member
- Sitka – 2 members
- Juneau – 3 members
- Haines – 2 members
Applications for board seats will be accepted until May 15, 2025.
The new board will be announced on July 1, 2025.
