UPDATE: Fatal Crash On Seward Highway Near Milepost 62

UPDATE: Alaska State Troopers report a two vehicle collision involving two cargo/box trucks near Mile 62 of the Seward Highway near Johnson Pass and Granite Creek around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Seward Alaska State Troopers, Cooper Landing EMS and Girdwood EMS responded to the scene. Initial indications are that a northbound box truck lost control and began fishtailing across all lanes of travel. A southbound box truck driven by 34-year-old Ifomaava Tagalu of Anchorage, and carrying two passengers, was unable to avoid the fishtailing truck and hit it head on. Tagalu was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers and the other driver were transported to Anchorage Hospitals. Next of Kin has been notified. The highway has since been cleared with normal traffic flow.

 

 

 

ORIGINAL STORY: According to Alaska 511, there is a two vehicle crash with fatalities in the area of Milepost 63 of the Seward Highway near Johnson Pass and Granite Creek.

 

If you intend on driving to or from the Kenai Peninsula, road delays or closures are expected during this investigation.
