Play Ball! Finally!
The first baseball played in the state of Alaska in 2020 featured the Alaska 20 Twins (formerly the Post 20 Twins) playing in the Alliance Baseball League with a modified baseball schedule for the summer of 2020.
The Alaska 20 team, made up of players from throughout the Kenai Peninsula, fell to South Anchorage 9-3 and to Service 9-4 in a doubleheader at Bartlett High School field.
The Twins, according to the released schedule for June 10-22, open the season with three, road doubleheaders (three, single-day road trips to Anchorage), all non-league contests.
Alaska 20 Twins 3 – South 9
The Twins allowed runs in each of the first four innings, falling behind 9-0 to South before scoring three, sixth inning runs in a 9-3 loss to South in game one of the Twins doubleheader. Jacob Belger lead the Twins with a 2 for 2 day at the plate and two RBI. Harrison Metz opened on the mound and allowed two runs in two innings. The Twins used five pitchers in six innings for the non-league, season opener.
Alaska 20 Twins 4 – Service 9
Service broke open a one-run game with a six-run, fifth inning en route to a 9-4 non-league victory over the Twins in Alaska 20’s second game of the doubleheader.
The Twins scored a pair of runs in the second to tie the game at 2-2 Service retook the lead at 3-2 in the third inning. The Twins closed with a two-run, seventh inning. Mose Hayes pitched three innings and allowed no earned runs in his first appearance on the mound. Tanner Ussing recorded Alaska 20’s only base hit as the Twins manufactured four earned runs with only one hit. Final Score: Service 9, Twins 4
