The University of Alaska Anchorage Alaska Airlines Center Grand Opening celebrations have begun and are scheduled throughout the next couple weeks.
Jon Dyson with the Center said the festivities begin with a special sneak peek for those who attended the ground breaking ceremony tonight.
Dyson: “Tomorrow there’s going to be a ribbon cutting at 4 pm, there’s going to be some dignitaries in town a lot of people that have been in the works since the very beginning will be recognized, the mayor and governor will both be here as well. After the ribbon cutting ceremony the public is welcome into the arena and check the place out, it will kind of fall right into the Springhill Suites volleyball tournament that will be going on that evening, so the women’s volleyball team will be showcasing and playing their first competition game that night.”
Through September 14 festivities will host a huge variety of local and nationwide talent including country superstar Tim McGraw on October 28th and 29th. Public tickets for Tim McGraw go on sale tomorrow, September 5, at 10 am.

The Alaska Airlines Center began it’s construction about three years ago and cost $109 million.
