Alaska Airlines is planning more than $50 million in new capital investments for the state over the next few years.

Company CEO Brad Tilden says the projects included expanded freight services, terminal upgrades at remote airports and a new hanger in Anchorage to accommodate larger aircraft.

Three additional Boeing 737-700 freighters are planned to be added to the airline’s fleet, the passenger planes will replace the airline’s existing Boeing 737-400 combi jets which will be phased out by 2017.

Those larger aircraft will require a bigger hangar at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

Alaska Airline officials say the projects are still in the planning stages.
