As a bill to make an overdose drug available over the counter heads to Governor Bill Walker’s desk for his signature, the U.S. Congress is one step closer to passing legislation focused on stopping the nationwide heroin epidemic.

The Senate bill would provide up to eighty million dollars to states and cities for heroin prevention programs.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski: “This is our opportunity to not only treat but to prevent opioid addiction”.
Senator Lisa Murkowski was one of 93 Senators to vote to end debate on the measure, which would in part expand the availability of the anti-overdose drug Narcan.
