It’s April 15th and federal income tax day, taxes must be filed online or postmarked by today.

 

Alaska has been named the best state for taxpayers in another state-by-state ranking, since the Last Frontier is one of just seven states with absolutely no state income tax.

 

A consumer website, Wallethub.com, ranked Alaska first for taxpayer return on investment. Researched took into account state and local taxes, finding that Alaskans pay an average of $3,000 per year. That’s without considering the Permanent Fund Dividend as a type of refund.

 

Alaska’s infrastructure, schools, and crime rates were factored into the “investment” taxpayers make. Overall, Alaska’s government services ranked 30th in the nation and near the bottom for hospital quality.

 

Behind Alaska, Wyoming ranked 2nd overall for taxpayers, with low taxes and strong governmental services.

 

Taking a broader view, western states ranked well while areas in the deep south suffered.

 

Arkansas was dead last, with relatively high taxes and low services.
